Lusitania
Description
Lusitania is one of the most authentic and direct expressions of Ostend’s maritime culinary heritage, a Gault&Millau-recognised restaurant located at the Visserskaai directly opposite the Vistrap — Ostend’s famous fish market where the catch of local fishing vessels is sold fresh off the boat every morning. This proximity is not incidental: chef Grégoire Deloddere literally crosses the road to select the finest fish of the day from the hands of local fishermen, and it is this relationship with the sea and its practitioners that defines the restaurant’s character. His cooking is anchored in the great traditions of Belgian and French seafood gastronomy, brought to life with fresh ideas and rigorous technique: skate cheeks are elevated with a buttermilk mousseline, Barbara herb, softly set egg yolk, and mimosa; a bouillabaisse takes its soul from whatever the fishing fleet delivers to the dock that morning. The result is cuisine of genuine freshness, honesty, and flavour that rewards those who appreciate product over pretension. The dining room on the fishing quay, the direct sourcing, and the deeply personal relationship between chef and the sea make Lusitania a restaurant of real integrity and originality within the Ostend fine dining scene. Open for both lunch and dinner throughout the week.
