Description

Nairobi National Park is one of the most extraordinary wildlife reserves in the world, located just seven kilometres from the centre of Nairobi, making it the only national park situated within a major world capital. Managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service, the park covers 117 square kilometres of open grass plains, rocky gorges, and riverine forests, providing habitat for an impressive range of wildlife against the iconic backdrop of the city skyline. The park is home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and one of the highest concentrations of black rhinos in Kenya. It is a critical rhino sanctuary and an important site for the conservation of the critically endangered Hirola antelope. The park also borders the Kitengela plains to the south, allowing wildlife seasonal migration. Visitors can explore the park through self-drive safaris and guided tours, making it an accessible introduction to East African wildlife. The Nairobi Safari Walk and animal orphanage at the park’s main gate provide additional educational and rehabilitative functions. Nairobi National Park is a remarkable conservation success story and an indispensable resource for urban wildlife education.
