Description
São Paulo Zoo, officially the Parque Zoológico de São Paulo, is the largest zoological park in Brazil and one of the largest in Latin America, located in the Água Funda neighbourhood of São Paulo. Founded in 1958, the zoo covers 824,529 square metres of what was originally Atlantic Forest, providing a naturally rich setting for its vast animal collection. The zoo is home to more than 3,200 animals representing over 400 species, including rare and endangered Brazilian fauna such as golden lion tamarins, giant anteaters, maned wolves, and hyacinth macaws, as well as exotic species including white rhinos, orangutans, and snow leopards. São Paulo Zoo is recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest zoo in Brazil and one of the most biologically diverse in the world. It has been a pioneer in conservation, being among the first institutions to run recovery programmes for threatened Brazilian species. Additional attractions within the park include an open safari area, a dinosaur-themed zone, and boat tours. Extensive educational programmes serve millions of visitors each year, making it one of the most visited zoos in the world.
