Description

Zoo Miami, officially the Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens, is the largest zoological park in the United States by land area, covering more than 290 hectares in the southern suburbs of Miami, Florida. Unlike many northern zoos, Zoo Miami benefits from a subtropical climate that allows many of its animals to remain outdoors year-round in expansive, naturalistic habitats that closely replicate their native environments. The zoo is home to more than 3,000 animals representing approximately 500 species, with particular strength in its collection of tropical and subtropical wildlife from Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Themed regions including Amazon & Beyond, Asia, Africa, and the Wings of Asia aviary offer visitors an immersive journey through global ecosystems. Zoo Miami is committed to conservation, education, and sustainability, participating in international species survival programmes and supporting field research projects. The park’s wildlife centre provides important rescue and rehabilitation services for native Florida wildlife. Educational programmes serve hundreds of thousands of children annually. Zoo Miami’s scale, biodiversity, and year-round subtropical accessibility make it a standout wildlife destination in the United States.
