Astier de Villatte
Description
Astier de Villatte was founded in 1996 by designers Ivan Pericoli and Benoît Astier de Villatte, following their shared training at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris. The brand quickly gained international recognition for its unique approach to ceramic design, drawing inspiration from 18th and 19th-century French tableware traditions while introducing a distinctly modern sensibility. Each piece is handmade in the brand’s Paris workshop by a skilled team of artisans using traditional techniques, producing a characteristic black terracotta base coated in a milky, luminous white glaze. The deliberate imperfections inherent in this process — subtle irregularities in shape, texture, and finish — are celebrated as hallmarks of authentic craftsmanship rather than flaws to be corrected. The flagship boutique at 173 Rue Saint-Honoré occupies a historic space that once served as Napoleon’s silversmith, adding another layer of depth to the shopping experience. In addition to its acclaimed ceramics — which range from delicate dinnerware to sculptural ornaments — Astier de Villatte offers a celebrated range of fragrance products including candles, incense, soaps, and eau de cologne, all developed in partnership with world-class perfumers. The brand also creates beautifully produced stationery and lifestyle objects. Astier de Villatte ships globally through its online boutique and maintains a devoted international following among collectors, interior designers, and lovers of refined French artisanship.
