Bistro Mathilda
Description
Bistro Mathilda is a beloved and consistently excellent bistronomic restaurant in the heart of Ostend, situated at the edge of the Leopoldpark within easy walking distance of the Casino Kursaal. Owned and run with genuine warmth by Luc Deklerck, Gerda Maenhout, and their family, the restaurant has evolved over the years from a traditional bistro into one of the most respected and polished fine dining addresses on the Belgian coast. Recognised by the Michelin Guide as a selected restaurant for the quality of its cooking, and consistently awarded by Gault&Millau, Bistro Mathilda offers a cuisine that honours the great traditions of French-Belgian gastronomy while incorporating a confident creative and seasonal touch. The kitchen team works with carefully sourced local and seasonal ingredients, with a menu that changes regularly around the freshest coastal produce and regional classics. Signature dishes include crispy hand-peeled grey shrimp croquettes with creamy filling, a steak tartare of Blonde d’Aquitaine beef prepared tableside with fries and salad — an undisputed house classic — and a Normandy pancake with creamy vanilla ice cream to close. Sommelier Jason Eerebout maintains a meticulously curated wine list. Open Wednesday through Sunday for both lunch and dinner. Accommodation is also available in the Holiday Suites Mathilda above the restaurant.
